Cross country runners prepare for Mt. SAC Invitational and Bay League final

Following the first Bay League cross country meet, runners will compete in the illustrious 71st Mt. SAC Invitational this weekend in Walnut.

In the Bay League Meet No. 1, Palos Verdes won the boys competition with 27 points, followed by Redondo (65) and Mira Costa and Peninsula, each who recorded 65 points on the Palos Verdes Course.

Mira Costa’s Cy Chittenden captured the boys race with a winning time of 16 minutes, 44.5 seconds. Palos Verdes runners Wade Nygren (16:52.4) and William Teets (16:53.9) finished second and third, respectively.

Redondo was led by Benjamin Tait, who finished sixth at 17:08.5. Mira Costa’s Cormac Carew (17:10.6) placed seventh.

In girls competition, Mira Costa took top honors with 26 points, followed by Redondo (37) and Palos Verdes (58).

Mira Costa’s Dalia Frias won the race with a time of 19:37.8, edging teammate Brooke Inouye (19:51.5). Redondo’s Isabella Landry (20:02.8) placed third just ahead of teammates Molly Ann Hastings (20:11.4) and Montgomery Allison (20:12.9). The Sea Hawk’s Kasey Bohney finished ninth (20:46.3).

Mira Costa’s Pnina Tofler (6th, 20:20.9), Lucy Atkinson (7th, 20:21.5) and Carmen Mel (10th, 20:48.7) finished in the top ten.

Peninsula captured the boys titles in the Junior Varsity and Freshman races. Mira Costa girls won the Junior Varsity competition and Redondo’s girls won the Frosh title.

The Bay League championship meet will take place Thursday, Nov. 1 at Redondo.
