Herwig awarded Xceed scholarship. El Segundo resident Marissa Herwig has received a $1,000 Romeo Doty Scholarship from Xceed Financial Credit Union. Herwig is studying to become a medical doctor at Montana State University. Xceed has awarded over $140,000 in Romeo Doty Scholarships, named in memory for a long-time board member who strove to make higher education available to all students. Scholarships are based on academic record, community involvement and a 60 second video in which the applicant explains why he or she is deserving of a scholarship.

Experience #37

El Segundo Museum of Art presents Experience #37: MATRIARCHS. Curated by two indigenous curators – Kristen Dorsey (Chickasaw Nation) and Jaclyn Roessel (Diné) – MATRIARCHS will feature multiple works by 12 contemporary womxn indigenous artists representing 14 indigenous communities. Four artists represent communities indigenous to California. Featured in the experience are an array of mediums including fashion, metalwork, photography, painting, basketry, and video. Let’s go fishing

The Department of Beaches and Harbors offers an introductory course to shore fishing. Fishing poles and bait will be provided at no cost. Anglers typically catch surfperch, croaker, corbina, halibut, and leopard shark. All ages welcome. The Dollface Dames

The Dollface Dames and The Smoky Hollow Tasting & Taproom R6 Distillery bring you a night of Vintage Entertainment in a real Speakeasy. Enter through the Distillery to the private Speakeasy for a night of live entertainment. Halloween cookies

Join you fellow teens (entering into grades 6-12) for a series of hands-on activities, competitions, and gatherings. Decorate Halloween cookies as classic monsters like Frankenstein, the Mummy, Dracula, or any other Halloween-inspired creatures. Al Teen Club events are fre and supplies are included (while supplies last). Snacks are provided.
