Father of Modern Space Art

“Chesley Bonestell: A Brush With The Future” premiered as an Official Selection at the Newport Beach Film Festival on May 1 to a sold-out theater. Rancho Palos Verdes filmmaker Douglass M. Stewart, Jr. welcomed t 90 guests to a VIP reception for his documentary on legendary space artist Chesley Bonestell (1888-1986) at Muldoon’s Irish Pub in Newport Beach. Afterwards, guests went next door to the Edwards Newport Big 6 for a special screening. Due to its high profile buzz, a second screening was added. The film was given the Audience Award for the category of “Art, Architecture and Design” films. The film was also will also shown at Spacefest IX in Tucson in early July and was an Official Selection for the Comic Con International Film Festival in San Diego at the end of July. Bonestell is best known for his space and science fiction paintings as well as for his contributions to the Golden Gate Bridge project and the Chrysler Building.
