Hermosa Beach About Town

AVP in Hermosa Beach

The Association of Volleyball Professionals returns to Hermosa Beach next week with the Hermosa Beach Open. The tournament kicks off next Thursday. The tournament will bring together some of the best volleyball players in the world to Hermosa, which was the home to the first professional volleyball match ever broadcast on network television. The tournament runs July 26 through July 29, but the setup will begin on Friday, July 20.

Community First Meeting

Councilmember Hany Fangary hosts his monthly Community First Meeting at City Council Chambers this Saturday. The meeting is designed for community members to discuss issues facing Hermosa and the South Bay. Unlike some meetings, which have a theme or guest speaker, this Saturday’s meeting has no agenda, and residents are encouraged to come with questions. The meeting starts at 2 p.m.

Council, commissions meet

Members of the City Council and each of Hermosa’s four advisory commissions will meet at the Hermosa Beach Kiwanis Building tonight for an annual review of the duties and goals of each of the commissions: Planning; Parks, Recreation and Community Resources; Public Works; and Emergency Preparedness. Among the issues up for consideration is a proposal previously discussed by the Council to allocate responsibility for senior living issues, and for facilitating filming permits in the city.
