Hermosa Beach About Town

Homelessness event

The League of Women Voters will host a meeting on homelessness in the South Bay at the Hermosa Beach Community Theater on Monday night. LA County Supervisor Janice Hahn and representatives from homeless services agencies will be among the speakers. The event runs from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Happy Hour with History

Author Michael Scott Moore will appear at the Hermosa Beach Museum next week for the Historical Society’s “Happy Hour with History.” Moore, a journalist from the South Bay, was captured by Somali pirates and spent more than two years in captivity, an experience he recounted in “The Desert and the Sea,” a book released last year. Next week, Moore will be addressing the history of surfing, a subject he previously covered in his 2010 book “Sweetness and Blood: How Surfing Spread from California and Hawaii to the Rest of the World, with some Unexpected Results.” The event begins at 6 p.m. Admission is $10, and is free for Historical Society Members.
