Hermosa Beach About Town: HBFD’s pancake breakfast, and Shakespeare by the Sea

Pancake breakfast

The Hermosa Beach Fire Department will host its annual Charity Pancake Breakfast this Sunday. The breakfast will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Hermosa Beach Fire Station on Pier Avenue.

This will be the first iteration of the annual breakfast following the City Council’s decision to contract with the County of Los Angeles for fire services. Members of the existing HBFD, as well as incoming firefighters from the county Fire Department, will be on hand, flipping, and serving.

The cost is $10 per person. All proceeds go to the Hermosa Beach Education Foundation.

Shakespeare by the Sea

Burnham Wood will come to Dunsinane and the moon shall change even as your mind as Shakespeare by the Sea comes to Valley Park next week.

Wednesday will feature a staging of “Macbeth,” one of Shakespeare’s “mature tragedies” that follows the blood-soaked path of a medieval Scottish king. Thursday’s fare is “Taming of the Shrew,” an early comedy about a pair of daughters and a forceful suitor. Admittance is free, and the curtain call for both evenings is at 7 p.m.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of Shakespeare by the Sea, a nonprofit which stages works of the bard every summer in parks and open spaces around Los Angeles and Orange counties.
