Authorities identified a homeless man whose body was found unconscious in a public restroom at the base of the city pier as Christopher Dino Pecchi, 54.
Pecchi, who went by his middle name rather than his first name, was a fixture among the local homeless.
He was found unconscious about 3:30 p.m. Monday, and Hermosa Beach firefighter-paramedics pronounced him dead at 3:33 p.m., after resuscitation efforts failed.
There were no signs of foul play, police said.
Toxicology tests were scheduled and the cause of Pecchi’s death was not yet known, said the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.
Pecchi’s body was found by a passerby in an unlocked one-person room of the bathroom building, Hermosa Beach Police Detective Mick Gaglia said.
“The citizen contacted lifeguards who ultimately contacted the Hermosa Beach Police and Fire departments. The Fire Department pronounced the male deceased at the scene after life saving measures were unsuccessful,” Gaglia said.
