Hermosa Beach About Town: Hearts of Hermosa, Shelter Training, Parking Permits

Hearts of Hermosa
The Hermosa Beach Education Foundation’s annual Hearts of Hermosa dinner dance fundraiser will return to Saint. Rocke, 142 Pacific Coast Highway on Saturday, March 19.

Hearts of Hermosa is the biggest fundraiser for the foundation, which for years has covered about 10 percent of the operating costs for the city schools, keeping numerous academic programs afloat.

Doors will open at 5:45 p.m. for a night of music, dinner, dancing, and the opportunity to bid on priceless items such as deluxe vacation packages and sports memorabilia.

Tickets for the event are $140 each, or two for $250.

For more information see www.HBEF.org.

Shelter training
Registration will begin for a training class for Red Cross shelter volunteers, offered at the end of March. The course will prepare participants for roles during disaster relief operations in Hermosa Beach. For more information contact Janice Brittain at Misc98@yahoo.com.

Parking permits
A grace period for new residential parking permits is in effect until March 21, when enforcement begins at 8 a.m.

Residential parking permit renewals were mailed out beginning the week of Jan. 17, and city officials encouraged residents to renew by mail to avoid standing in line.

Cost of a residential parking permit is $40, and an employee parking permit costs $143. They may be purchased at Room 101 of City Hall, 1315 Valley Drive, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Permits become half-price on Sept. 1 of each year.

For information see www.hermosabch.org or call 310-318-0217 or 310-318-0206.
