They’re art supportive
The Associates, one of two support groups for the PV Art Center, meet today (Thursday) at 6 p.m. in the (former? temporary?) art center in the Promenade on the Peninsula, 550 Deep Valley Drive, Suite 261, Rolling Hills Estates. No reservations required and everyone invited. Food and beverages served at 6 and the program, with guest speaker Yuichiro Roy Kunisaki, starting at 7. That special someone
“Looking,” by Norm Foster, and directed by Stephanie Coltrin, opens at 8 p.m. at Little Fish Theatre, 777 S. Centre St., San Pedro. It’s about four middle-aged singles who are drawn together by a personal ad in the newspaper (maybe even the one you’re holding in your hands right now!). It plays mostly Friday and Saturday at 8 and Sunday at 2 p.m., through May 25 (additional shows are Wed, 5/8, Thurs, 5/9, and Thurs, 5/23, at 8 p.m.). A night in Nigeria
The Afrobeat play/musical “Fela!” which is presented much like Fela Kuti’s very last concert at his club in Lagos, Nigeria, returns for ten days to the Ahmanson Theatre at the Music Center in downtown Los Angeles. Snip, snip, little feline
The Latin/Contemporary jazz band Abrakadabra performs from 8 p.m. to 12 midnight at Suzy’s Bar and Grill, 1141 Aviation Blvd., Hermosa Beach, in an effort to collect donations for the local Peter Zippi Fund for Animals, specifically cats. The Fund is run by volunteers and sponsors medical treatment, shelter, and adoptions for lost or homeless animals. (310) 379-6171.
