Mira Costa boys, PV girls win Bay League cross country titles

Mira Costaโ€™s boys cross country team captured its first Bay League title since 2006 when all seven of its runners placed in the top 11 snapping Palos Verdesโ€™ six-year championship streak.

Ranked No. 3 in CIF-Southern Section Division 2, Mira Costaโ€™s 26 points easily bested Redondo (44) and Palos Verdes (72).

Redondoโ€™s boys are ranked No. 13 in Division 1 while Palos Verdes, who was missing two of its top runners in the Bay League finals, is ranked No. 3 in Division 3 heading into the CIF Prelims to be held Saturday, Nov. 14 at Riverside Golf Club.

Redondoโ€™s Ethan Comeaux won the individual Bay League title finishing the 3-mile Peninsula Course in 16 minutes, 16 seconds.

Mira Costaโ€™s Ethan Williams (16:32) and Ty Garrett (16:40) placed second and third, respectively.

Also running for the Mustangs were Caleb Llorin (6th, 16:50), Cole Lewis (7th, 16:51), Michael Yaskowitz (8th, 16:57), Quinn Satow (10th, 17:13) and Scott Healy (11th, 17:18).

Redondo also had top-ten finishes from Harrison Fox (5th, 16:42) and Nick Elias (9th, 17:08). Also running for the Sea Hawks were Andrew Zavala (14th, 17:26), Benjamin Tait (15th, 17:29), Brian Adler (23rd, 18:21) and Etienne Doidic (26th, 18:58).

Girls competition was much closer with Jacquelyn Smith setting a school-record time on the course at 18:52 to lead Palos Verdes to its second straight Bay League crown.

Palos Verdes had four girls finish in the top ten, Following Smith were Alex Regan (3rd, 19:34), Camille Hines (6th, 19:55) and Olivia Polischeck (10th, 20:20).

The Sea Kings tallied 34 points to edge Mira Costa (38) and Redondo (45). Palos Verdes is ranked No. in CIF-SS Division 3, Mira Costa holds the No. 4 spot in Division 2 and Redondo is No. 8 in Division 1.

Mira Costa was led by Melia Chittenden, who finished second at 18:58. Helping the Mustangโ€™s cause were Alexis Johnson (4th, 19:40), Emily Jones (7th, 20:06), Brooke Inouye (12th, 20:24), Amanda Han (13th, 20:26), Ellie Lee-Morrow (22nd, 21:21) and Jessie Gregson-Williams (23rd, 22:02).

Running for Redondo were Taylor Beaudoin (5th, 19:49), Isabella Landry (8th, 20:09), Jean Echavarria-Herrera (9th, 20:10), Nicole Beaudoin (11th, 20:22), Trinity Leonard (16th, 20:49), Isabel Ramirez (17th, 20:55) and Sara Bilotta (20th, 21:15).

CIF Championships will be held Saturday, Nov. 21 at Mt. San Antonio College followed by the CIF State Championship on Saturday, Nov. 28 at Woodward Park in Fresno.
