Jonathan Chacon pleads not guilty
Jonathan Chacon, the 23-year-old man suspected in the February slayings of his 19-year-old girlfriend Courtney Bergman and her 59-year-old mother, Vicki, appeared at the Torrance Courthouse on Tuesday and pled not guilty to the double homicide. He also denied the special allegations that he used a deadly weapon.
Chacon allegedly killed the pair with a knife by slitting their throats on Feb. 28. After police identified him as the main suspect, he fled to Mexico. He was caught by the Redondo Beach Police Department in cooperation with Mexican authorities early the next morning after over 50 tips flooded into the police department regarding Chacon’s whereabouts.
A preliminary hearing will he held at the Torrance Courthouse on May 9.
