The first ever Laugh Zone comedy event will be held this Friday evening, and all high schoolers and young adults with special needs are welcome.
The event will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the ICAN California Abilities Network in the Hope Chapel facility at 2510 Pacific Coast Highway, and will feature Improv Revolution, a comedy troupe from UC Irvine.
Laugh Zone, which is aiming for monthly performances, is the brainchild of Matthew Warden, a South High student whose sister Taylor has a learning disability and is on the autism spectrum. He noticed that his sister was being excluded from many of the day to day activities that make up adolescence, and wanted to find a way to make her laugh again.
He obtained the sponsorship of Autism Society of Los Angeles. ICAN, in addition to providing the facilities, will also contribute pizza for participants.
