About 280 people from Hermosa, Manhattan and Redondo beaches gathered for a memorial paddleout on Saturday, July 21. The paddleout, organized by Chris Thomas, with the help of Fatina Habash Johnson, was in honor of all the classmates and friends who have died over the years. Those who attended grade school, junior high and high school in the Beach Cities attended the event. After Amazing Grace was played, rocks with the names of the deceased were thrown in the ocean. “It was like a reunion,” Habash Johnson said, class of 1972 at Redondo Union. “I hadn’t seen some people since high school. It was great.”
