Redondo Beach About Town

Community Safety Fair

The Redondo Beach Police and Fire departments will host their annual Public Safety Open House on Sunday, Oct. 13, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Redondo Beach Civic Center, 415 Diamond St.

The open house gives the public an opportunity to view and participate in a series of demonstrations provided by their first responders, including RBPD’s aerial drones, K-9s, SWAT units and motor units. The Fire Department will also demonstrate its rescue tactics.

Members of the public will be given access to vehicle and facility tours, including RBPD’s firearms simulator. Past years have seen members of the public tour RBPD’s police station and jail.

Food, music, local vendors, pet adoptions and a dunk tank are also on offer for attendees.

For more information, call 310-318-0612.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month Candlelight Vigil

The Redondo Beach Police Department will host its 11th annual Domestic Violence Awareness Month Candlelight Vigil on Saturday, Oct. 19, at 6:30 p.m. outside of the Redondo Beach Police Station, 415 Diamond St. Event celebrates survivors, remembers victims and honors those who work diligently to end domestic violence.

RBPD’s Victim Advocacy Program has served the community since 1996, offering support to victims of domestic violence and their families from the immediate aftermath of an incident, helping victims become survivors, from reporting to support in court to whatever comes next. The program and its volunteers are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, every day of the year.

Friends of the Redondo Beach Library Book Sale

The Friends of the Redondo Beach Library will hold its annual Book Sale — which offers even better deals on gently used books and media than the typically wallet-friendly prices at its bookshop — on Saturday, Oct. 26, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Redondo Beach Main Library, 303 N. Pacific Coast Hwy.

The Friends of the Library sponsor many programs and services with funds derived from sales of donated materials, memberships, endowments, bequests and special fundraising events. In 2019, the Friends of the Library has budgeted $63,099 to support the library with program subscriptions, computer donations, library program support and more.
