Mental Health Evaluation

On Saturday, Oct. 19, at 2:08 p.m., Redondo Beach Police were dispatched to the 2500 block of Felton Lane regarding a man in the middle of the street, holding a lighter. An officer contacted the man and determined he was suffering from a mental health crisis. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to a local hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.

DUI Traffic Collision

On Saturday, Oct. 19 at 9 p.m., a car traveling southbound on Gertruda Avenue collided with a vehicle stopped for a red light at Catalina Avenue. Police found that the driver of the first vehicle showed objective signs of alcohol intoxication. A passenger in the vehicle said she was struck in the face by the driver during an argument immediately prior to the crash. The driver was uncooperative, refusing a chemical test by police, and had apparently sustained a previous injury from a battery that occurred at a bar in Hermosa Beach, police said. The driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Violation of Domestic Violence Restraining Order

A woman living along the 2600 block of Harriman Lane called police on Saturday, Oct. 19 around 11 p.m. to report that her ex-boyfriend, who formerly lived at the location, had contacted her via phone. He told her that he would be coming to the residence to retrieve property, despite being subject to an active domestic violence restraining order. Officers eventually located him at a business on Artesia and placed him under arrest.

Violation of Court Order

On October 20, at 9:21 a.m., police identified a known subject on the pier allegedly in violation of a court-issued stay-away order. The subject was placed under arrest, making it the 10th time he has been arrested over the last month and a half.

Vehicle Burglary

On Oct. 20, at 12:40 p.m., Redondo Beach police were dispatched to a vandalism call on the 800 block of Camino Real. Upon arrival, officers found two vehicle burglaries had occurred, both by smashed windows. Loss was an unknown amount of cash and a checkbook. Surveillance video showed a potential suspect vehicle. An investigation is ongoing.
