Redondo improved its record at 2-0 with an impressive 56-10 win against Santa Monica in a game played at Santa Monica College Friday night.

Quarterback Jacob Silvera passed for two touchdowns and ran for another to lead the Sea Hawks.

Dallas Branch ran for 25-yard and 8-yard touchdowns and Malik Spencer added second-half scoring runs of 25 and 7 yards.

“We were fairly consistent in all three facets of the game; offensively, defensively and on special teams,” Redondo head coach Matt Ballard said. “Most promising were the improvements in self-discipline and mental errors; with zero offensive turnovers and only a few penalties.”

Ballard was also pleased with his team’s tenacity after gaining a large lead early in the game, thus allowing most of his players to gain valuable game experience.

With a strong focus on the running attack, the Redondo coaching staff named sophomore offensive guard Christian Islas the Sea Hawk’s Offensive Player of the Game.

Senior defensive tackle Justin Curtis was selected Defensive Player of the Game, junior Diego Balcarcel earned Special Teams Player of the Game honors and junior running back/linebacker Derron Session was named Scout “Eager Beaver”  Player of the Week.

Redondo returns home to face Marine league power San Pedro (1-1) Friday at 7 p.m. The Pirates are ranked No. 2 behind league rival Narbonne in the LA City Section and are coming off a 45-21 win over visiting Roosevelt.

“We have a tough test ahead of us against a physical and highly successful San Pedro football team,” Ballard said. “It’s also the ‘Red & White Bowl,’ which is a night to celebrate our school spirit and sense of pride in our community and town.”

Redondo’s principal, Dr. Nicole Wesley, is a graduate of San Pedro High School.

“Dr. Wesley has always been an enthusiastic and proud supporter of all things Sea Hawk.” Ballard commented “ She’s been an awesome principal and important part of our community. As a San Pedro High alumnus, she may feel conflicted, but we know she’s a Hawk at heart.”

Backup quarterback Austin Jackson led San Pedro to its first win on Thursday after starting quarterback Jacob Miller injured his ankle in a 13-2 loss at Downey in the season opener.

Jackson was 6 of 11 passing for 126 yards and two touchdowns of 34 and 44 yards.

Running backs Sean Davenport (11 carries for 82 yards and one touchdown) and Brian Halsey (10 carries for 84 yards) helped carry the load.
