Redondo Beach residents Puma Nelson and Dan Marinelli work their combined 28th Super Bowl this week in Inglewood.

Nelson has done 18 as the studio floor director for the NFL Network. Marinelli has been an on-field, handheld camera operator for 10 Super Bowls.

Earlier this week, in preparation for Super Bowl LVI, the two worked together in the studio on NFL Network shows at SoFi Stadium. During Sunday’s game, Marinelli will be on the field for NBC Sports.

His Super Bowl assignment is to run up and down the far sideline (away from the press box), with his right eye in his camera viewfinder, and left eye watching the field.

“I’m ahead of the play,” he said.

When the ball moves inside the 20-yard line, Marinelli goes to a corner of the endzone.

“It’s a battle to get in front of the still photographers,” he said.

His NBC armband permits him frontline access. Marinelli will also work the halftime show.

This season was his 15th on the crew of NBC’s Sunday Night Football.

Nelson, for the NFL Network’s pre-game and post-game shows Super Bowl Sunday, cues talent, makes sure cameras are in the correct position and runs the studio according to the director’s orders from the control room. ER
