Redondo Union celebrated Senior Night Friday with a 49-0 romp over winless Leuzinger, but faces an uphill battle this week when the Sea Hawks travel to take on two-time defending Bay League champion Palos Verdes in a 2:30 p.m. contest.

Senior Jonathan Allagoa led the Sea Hawks against the Olympians gaining 186 yards and two touchdowns rushing, earning the team’s Offensive Player of the Week award.

Junior Micah Welsh ran for 86 yards and one touchdown in a reserve role and was named the Redondo’s Scout/Practice Player of the Week.

The lopsided win gave many non-starters an opportunity to play and gain valuable experience with the playoffs only three weeks away.

Sophomore linebacker Cole LeBlanc earned Defensive Player of the Game honors and junior Malik Downey was selected Special Team Player of the Game

Leuzinger, which has been outscored 386-30 this season, will welcome the opportunity to leave the Bay League next season when the CIF Southern Section league realignment occurs. Leuzinger and West Torrance will join the Pioneer League while Inglewood and Morningside come into the Bay League.

Redondo (6-2, 2-1) is in a situation where it can control its own destiny but it won’t come easy. The Sea Hawks close out the regular season with road games against Palos Verdes and rival Mira Costa, the second- and ninth-ranked teams in the Northern Division.

Palos Verdes, the defending Northern Division champion, is coming off an impressive 34-7 win at eighth-ranked West. The Sea Kings (6-2, 3-0) have a five-game winning streak and have outscored Bay League opponents 124-7.

Palos Verdes had shutdown two strong running games the last two weeks with wins over west and Mira Costa.

Running back Tyler Moore gained 174 yards and scored three touchdowns on 31 carries against West, giving the senior 827 yards and 15 touchdowns this season.

Palos Verdes quarterback Daniel DiRocco connected on 10 of 16 passes for 119 yards and two touchdowns against the Warriors.

Mira Costa (5-3, 2-1) defeated host Peninsula 42-6 Friday afternoon and plays at Leuzinger this week, making the league finale against Redondo a game with serious playoff implications.
