Speaker Series brings home Misty Copeland

South Bay native Misty Copeland, the first African American female principal dancer with the American Ballet Theatre, opens the upcoming Distinguished Speakers series season on Thursday, Oct. 20 at the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center. Copeland trained in San Pedro before joining the American Ballet Theater.

Neil deGrasse Tyson, the country’s best-known popularizer of science, follows Copeland on Thursday, November 15. Subsequent speakers will include former NATO Commander Admiral James Stavridis; National Geographic photographerCristina Mittermeier; Bob Eubanks, who brought The Beatles to the United States; and documentary filmmaker Ken Burns.
