Sharkeez moving on up
The Manhatta Beach Sharkeez will moving two blocks south and across the street from its current location on Highland Avenue to the Upper Manhattan Lounge location, 3600 Highland Ave., which is now closed.
“We are still doing great at our current location but…the new joint has 2 a.m. closing every night. We only have Friday and Saturday,” said owner Greg Newman.
Newman also said the new location will allow for live entertainment and dance, which is not permitted at the current location, due to zoning issues.
Sharkeez will remain open at its current location until March 1, when the changeover is projected to take place.
“I think we are going to kill it in the new spot,” Newman said.
The current store is currently for sale and, according to Newman, “is an ‘A’ location for a restaurant that doesn’t mind closing at midnight during the week and 2 a.m. on weekends.”
Save the aquarium
The community in recent weeks has rallied around the Roundhouse Marine Studies Lab and Aquarium to raise funds aimed at meeting its $100,000 shortfall.
Heidi Thompson has helped organize a silent auction fundraiser 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11 at Elleni Couture, 1100 Mahattan Ave.
The cost of the event is $10 and includes wine and hors d’oeuvres. All proceeds from the silent auction will go directly to the Roundhouse Aquarium.

Correction
A story in last week’s Easy Reader incorrectly stated that the Manhattan Beach Education Foundation had raised $200,000 so far in its annual appeal. MBEF has actually so far raised $2 million of its $4.4 million goal, according to MBEF Executive Director Susan Warshaw.
MBEF will hold its first Rally for Education today from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Metlox Center, 1221 North Valley Drive. ER
