TRAVEL: San Diego’s Mexico border town, Imperial Beach

Imperial Beach is the most southwesterly city in the continental US

During a recent trip to Tijuana, I tried to figure a way I could just walk down the San Diego coastline into Mexico, from the closest town, Imperial Beach, 5 miles away.

After all, I could see the Tijuana skyline from the Imperial Beach Pier, and even closer from the four-mile long Tijuana Estuary, home to over 370 species of birds and a great area to hike and walk.

But alas, the only way I’d be able to do this is via a long swim, and by the time I reached TJ, I’d be looking at fences and such in the water. Besides, if you know anything about the waters of IB and TJ, as I explain in the latest episode of PhotowalksTV—you wouldn’t want to take this on.

But you might enjoy visiting and photographing the most southwesterly city in the continental United States, as I did. Check it out!
