Loewenstein not running for mayor
Eight-year city councilman Todd Loewenstein will not be a candidate for mayor next March.
The District Two representative and former two-term Redondo Beach Unified School District board member told Easy Reader Monday that he weighed the question for the past year, before making his decision in November.
“It’s been a privilege to represent the people of Redondo Beach, I think it’s time for some fresh blood to come in,” he said. “There’s good, qualified candidates that are out there.”
Loewenstein made a list of accomplishments of this council – four pages. “I think we’ve accomplished a lot. I looked at the list, it’s pretty astounding.”
He said his time on the council has been “both a sacrifice and a reward at the same time.”
He completes his final term in March.
“11 meetings (to go), but who’s counting?” Loewenstein said.

Hot Dog on a Stick to return to Redondo Pier
The city has signed an agreement with FAT Brands – owners of Hot Dog On A Stick – to open a new store in the spot that local favorite Craig’s Hot Dog On A Stick closed after Labor Day, following 62 years in business.
“It was a hot location,” said Nils Nehrenheim, city councilman. “We had 10-12 (entities) interested in the space. A lot of people wanted that spot. There was a tremendous amount of interest.”
FAT Brands owns Fatburger and a list of other restaurant chains.
“We can confirm that the lease was executed last week,” said Erin Mandzik, senior director of corporate communications. “We are thrilled that we were able to keep the location a Hot Dog on a Stick, and look forward to serving our fans again soon. We will be making some updates to the location and plan to open in mid-2025.”
“Craig’s Hot Dog On A Stick” at the Redondo Pier was the chain’s second location, opening in 1962. The first was in Santa Monica in 1946.
Craig Reidt bought Hot Dog On A Stick on the Redondo Pier in 1979 from the chain’s founder, Dave Barham. Craig’s father, Bud Reidt, helped at the original Hot Dog On a Stick, first named “Party Puffs” before being renamed for its signature item.
Hot Dog On a Stick now has 70 locations in seven states.
Because of Reidt’s original deal with the late Mr. Barham, “Craig’s Hot Dog On a Stick” existed separately from the chain.
The 12 x 12 spot on the Redondo Beach Pier was originally an Orange Julius, next to an A&W.

Looks like the only loser in Redondo Beach elections was BCHD that spent about $600,000 of our tax money – so I guess taxpayers are the real losers. BCHD was told no taxpayer funding for the an allcove building or demolition of the failed South Bay Hospital.
