“Lives are changed because of this walk,” Rabbi Yossi Mintz said of the Skechers Pier to Pier Friendship Walk during a “partner appreciation” night at Top Golf in El Segundo on Thursday, February 27.

Since the walk began in 2009 it has raised over $27 million for education foundations, college scholarships, and the Friendship Foundation, headed by Rabbi Mintz. Over 20,000 people participated in the 16th annual walk last October 20, from the Manhattan Beach pier to the Hermosa Beach pier and back.

The Friendship Foundations helps neurodiverse students on 87 school campuses, most in the South Bay.

Next fall the Friendship Foundation will open its own $55 million, 3.2 acre Friendship Campus in South Redondo to teach social and vocational skills to neurodiverse students.

Last October’s Pier to Pier Walk raised $1.1 million for the Friendship Foundation. Six local education foundations also received funds at the Top Golf event from last October’s walks.

El Segundo received $202,678, Hermosa Beach received $269,812, Manhattan Beach received $278,263, Redondo Beach received $265,191, Palos Verdes received  and Torrance received $421,148.
