Redondo Union High School (RUHS) student actors are, in the words of Danny Zuko, “rockin’ and rollin’ and whatnot” at the auditorium tonight. At 7 p.m., they will kick off the premiere production of Grease, everybody’s favorite high school drama.

RUHS Theater Arts Booster Club and RUHS Drama Club went before the City Council and School Board last month to talk about the long hours and tremendous effort that goes into putting on a production like Grease.

RUHS Theater Arts Booster Club President Kristie Greenleaf said drama teacher Justin Baldridge and the students have worked “very hard” over the last four years to completely transform the drama program.

logoWhen Baldridge joined RUHS, the program was $7,500 in debt and without a home – the auditorium was being renovated – but it has since become a profitable program that delivers “quality, professional productions,” Greenleaf said.

Mayor Mike Gin, along with council member Steve Aspel, City Attorney Mike Webb, and School Board President Anita Averick, are reportedly planning to attend the RUHS production of Grease.

Shows are scheduled for March 15 and 16 and 7 p.m., and again on March 21 and 22 at 7 p.m. The final show will be March 23 at 2 p.m. Tickets are 10$ in advance and $15 at the door. For more information, visit www.ruhsdrama.com.

Tonight, Ruby’s is sponsoring a build-your-own sundae table after the production.
