Athletic teams from Palos Verdes High School won four 1st-place titles in the 2012-13 CIF Southern Section Academic Awards competition.
Awards were based on cumulative grade point average in 22 sports which included 1,585 entries.
The Sea King’s boys cross country (3.97 GPA), boys track & field (3.71), girls basketball (3.84) and girls soccer (3.71) teams were tops on the list of schools with enrollment of 1,500 or more.
Palos Verdes was also runner-up in boys soccer (3.52) and boys tennis (3.7) along with placing 4th in boys basketball (3.52), girls track and field (3.72), girls volleyball (3.69) and girls water polo (3.73). The boys water polo team came in 5th with a 3.61 GPA.
The Sea King’s girls golf team earned a grant from the Women’s Southern California Golf Association (SCGA) after placing 3rd with a 3.8 GPA.
Peninsula High School’s boys volleyball team captured 1st place with a 3.75 GPA and the Panther’s softball team earned 4th place (3.62).
The Academic Awards program is sponsored by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and Ford. Team winners were honored at a pre-game ceremony prior to the Angels showdown with the Texas Rangers on April 24.
