Around 8 p.m. Friday night, a man who was reportedly speeding through Redondo Beach failed to heed police warnings to pull over. A short chase ensued.

The driver refused to yield and swiped “at least three parked vehicles on Huntington, went south on MacKay Lane, and hit another vehicle that was occupied,” said Sgt. Shawn Freeman of the Redondo Beach Police Department.

This collision occurred on the corner of MacKay and Marshallfield Ln. The driver whose car was struck sustained fairly serious injuries, including broken bones.

At press time, police did not have an update on the person’s condition, but confirmed the person had been transported to the hospital for surgery.

According to police, the suspect promptly abandoned his car and fled on foot with at least one female passenger in tow. Police impounded his vehicle and are still engaged in the process of trying to locate him.

“Two things are going on right now,” Sgt. Freeman said on Tuesday. “We’re trying to locate him and second, we’re trying to get a report together, put a case together against the driver – the charges include felony of evading the police, hit and run, felony hit and run, and any additional charges.”.

One person -- pictured here on a stretcher -- was injured in Friday night's crash. Saturday morning, police did not have information about the victim's condition.
