It has been almost five years since Handel’s came to Redondo. When they did very few people had heard of this chain based in Youngstown, Ohio. They know it now and are fans of the ice cream made in-house from recipes dating back to the 1940’s. The selection rotates through over 100 flavors, including sherbets, ices, and fat free and sugarless versions. The bare-bones walk-up stand isn’t fancy, but there are nearly always people standing outside eating Handel’s because they couldn’t even wait to get to nearby benches. It’s a sign, as if any was needed, of the appreciation locals have for Handel’s. — RF
