Beach Cities Sports: Baseball, swimming, volleyball and more

Baseball: Redondo Union High School outfielder Xavier Cojulun, who will be entering his senior year in the fall, made the French National U18 baseball team and will play in the European Championships in Spain with the top two teams playing in the World Series Qualifier.

Volleyball: Surfside Volleyball Club will be holding a camp for girls ages 9-13 July 25-29 from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. daily at Hermosa Valley School. To register, visit curfsidecolleyball.com. Beach Volleyball: Combining beach volleyball, fashion and music, the beach culture is celebrated at Smackfest which celebrates its 23rd year on July 23 in Hermosa Beach. Run by Bill Sigler, the event features costumed-themed coed 4’s and Pro 4’s tournaments. For more information, visit smackfestevents.com.

The CBVA will be hosting tournaments on Saturday, July 23, featuring Men’s B and Women’s AA competition that will take place adjacent to the Manhattan Beach Pier. For more information, visit CBVA.com.

The AAU will be hosting the West Coast Junior Olympic Games in Hermosa Beach July 20-23. Competition includes male 14U and female 12U, 14U, 15U, 16U, 18U divisions. For more information, visit aaubeach.org.

Registration is open for teams in the 4-person and 6-person tournaments to be held at the World Series of Beach Volleyball in Long Beach on Saturday, Aug. 27. Beach Tennis: In conjunction with the International Surf Festival, the Endless Summer Beach Tennis Tournament will take place Saturday, Aug. 6 in Manhattan Beach. To register or for more information, visit westcoastbeachtennis.net.

Basketball: Dave Miller, current NBA basketball analyst for Time Warner Cable SportsNet, will be hosting his annual MVP  Basketball Camp at Aviation Sports Complex in Redondo Beach Aug. 1-5 from 9 a.m – 3 p.m. The fundamental camp is for boys and girls ages 5 to 14 and geared for all levels of play. Swimming: Any contestant wanting to participate in the International Surf Festival’s Dwight Crum Pier-to-Pier Swim on Sunday, Aug. 7 who did not complete the 2015 swim must register for the swim on-line and then pass a 500-meter “check out” swim.  Swim “check outs” will be held at the Hermosa Beach Pier on July 23 and 24 from 9 – 11 a.m.  Decisions of Lifeguards at “check out” are final.
