Many of the areaโs top athletes will converge at Redondo Union High School Friday when the Sea Hawks host Mira Costa in a Bay League dual meet at 5 p.m.

The boys and girls teams from both schools are coming off strong performances at the South Bay Championship held last weekend at West Torrance.
Redondoโs girls team won the overall team championship with 116 points, besting Carson (106) and Mira Costa (72). The Sea Hawks were led by sophomore Kayla Ferron, who placed first in the 800 (2:22.33) and the 3,200 (11:33.94).
Redondoโs 400 Relay team placed second with a time of 50.30 and Aundrea Yancy secured second-place finishes in the 100 hurdles (16.09) and high jump (5-2). Kayla Patterson finished third in the 400 (61.45) and Ruby Davis placed third in the 100 (12.69) to help the Sea Hawks.
Mira Costa distance runner Aryn Foland took top honors in the 1,600 setting a meet record with a mark of 5:07.32. Sprinter Ashlee Dotson finished second in the 200 with a time of 21.17, Acacia Moore placed third in the 100 hurdles 16.23 and the Mustangโs 1,600 relay team finished second at 4:04.56.
In field events, Mira Costaโs Yovanna Iniguez placed second in the discus with a distance of 93-8 and Brittany Collins finished third in the shot put with a toss of 33-0.
In boys competition, Mira Costa (69) placed third behind Peninsula (95) and Carson (80). Redondo (61) finished fifth.
Mira Costa was led by J.R. Tavai, who won the shot put (52-10) and discus (148-2) competitions. The Mustangโs 1,600 relay team placed second with a time of 3:28.78, Brett Douville finished second in the 800 (1:58.64),ย Kyle Hubbard was second in the 300 hurdles (40.38) and Ryan Morrow finished second in the pole vault (14-0).
Redondo sprinter Christian Bassman set a meet record in the 100 with a time of 10.82 and also finished third in the 200 (22.42). Derrick Duran placed second in the 400 (51.05) and Max Niebergall finished third in the pole vault (13-0) for the Sea Hawks.
Mira Costa will host both the Bay League Prelims at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 3 and the Bay League Finals on Friday, May 6 at 5 p.m. ER
