Fundraisers: In conjunction with a car wash, the Mira Costa Football and Cheer programs will be partnering with All Green Electronics Recycling to a host an E-waste collection from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17 at the MBUSD District Offices, 325 S. Soccer: U.S. Soccer and the U.S. Futsal National Team will stage an elite player identification camp Sept. 12-15 at South Coast Soccer City, 540 Maple Ave. in Torrance. The ID camp has been designed to identify the top Futsal players in the country, with an eye toward strengthening the U.S. team that will attempt to qualify for the 2012 FIFA Futsal World Cup in Thailand. Soccer City will host a “Mini World Cup Tournament” presented by Buffalo Wild Wings on Saturday, Sept. 17. Cycling: Aspiring racers are invited to join the South Bay Wheelmen cycling club which is holding the Dave Richardson Series consisting of 11 races in three months that are a mix of criteriums, road races, and time trials. Racers are divided into A and B categories, depending on experience. Men and women race together but scored separately as are age-graded categories. Co-Ed Flag Football on the Beach begins Sept. 21 with a combined two-night league on Wednesdays and Thursdays highlighted by a grand finale year-end tournament on Saturday, Oct. 22. Played at 19th Street and The Strand in Hermosa Beach, games are played with two 20 minute halves, alternating guy and girl quarterbacks. Fitness: AdventurePlex, 1701 Marine Ave., Manhattan Beach is offering its Open Rock Wall and Ropes Course on Saturdays from 12-3 p.m. (Rock Wall is also open Sundays from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.). Whether a single child, the whole family, or just a group of friends (Ages 5 and up for rock wall, 8 and up for ropes course), the course provides challenges of solving problems and overcoming obstacles.
