After walking into Spyder Surf, it’s hard not to be overwhelmed by the variety of surf garb. At the flagship store on Pacific Coast Highway, fluorescents, florals, stripes, solids, and flannels are organized by brand. Double that at Spyder 2 on Pier Avenue, and it’s easy to see why a surf shop that was started with only boards and a couple pairs of OP’s has grown to this level.

“New products are always in and we’re about fresh new clothes,” Spyder Surf manager, local ripper, and team rider, Chris Broman said. “We carry local brands like Hippy Tree, Matix, Misk as well as, Hurley, Rip Curl, Volcom, and many others.”
Behind the enormous selection of clothing is a knowledgeable staff.

“We have local hot surfers like Codie Stamis, a multiple winners of the South Bay Boardrider’s Surf Club contests, like Mason Silva, and others,” Broman said. “In the past, Greg Browning as well as Kelly Zaun worked the floor.”
