Redondo Union earns second seed in CIF girls volleyball playoffs

Bay League champion Redondo Union enters the CIF Division 1-AA Girl Volleyball Championships presented by Farmers as the second seed and will host Millikan in the first round Tuesday at 7 p.m.

The Sea Hawks (28-5) finished the regular season with strong performances, including a sweep against rival Mira Costa. Millikan (16-14) is the fourth team from the Moore League.

The winner advances to face the Marlborough-San Marcos winner on Thursday.

Mira Costa (22-8) is ranked No. 7 and hosts Long Beach Poly (20-12) in the opening round with the winner taking on the winner between No. 9 Marymount and Ventura.

Palos Verdes (16-13) is the Bay League’s third representative and will play at Santa Barbara Tuesday. Peninsula (13-12) earned an at-large berth and plays at Long Beach Wilson (24-8).

In Division 1-A, Del Rey runner-up Bishop Montgomery (11-16) hosts No. 10 Esperanza (19-10) in the first round on Tuesday.

Pioneer League champion North Torrance (20-6) is ranked No. 5 in Division 2-AA and hosts San Luis Obispo (17-10). South Torrance (22-10) is ranked sixth and hosts Righetti (17-12).

El Segundo (12-11) travels to Diamond Bar (17-7) in its first-round match.

In Division 2A, No. 10 Chadwick (15-7) hosts Western (15-6) while No. 8 Vistamar (19-7) earned a first-round by in Division 4A and will host the winner of the Duarte-Mesa Grande match on Thursday.
