The El Segundo High surf team moved into first place in the Premier division of the South Bay Scholastic Surfing Association League this month with a victory over Palos Verdes High on Jan. 11. The league is divided into two divisions and has 10 teams, from Santa Monica to San Pedro. El Segundo practices in El Porto three mornings a week before school. The team is coached by Tyler Contarsy, a PE and Special Ed teacher at El Segundo Middle School.
