Fatal traffic accident off Ardmore Avenue in Manhattan

MBPDA traffic accident on Ardmore Avenue at 19th Street in Manhattan Beach around 10:55 p.m. on Monday led to a Lawndale man’s death, Manhattan Beach Police said.

“Multiple callers reported a vehicle had struck a wall and occupants were trapped inside,” police said in a press release. “Witnesses provided assistance until police and paramedics arrived.”

Javier Rubio, 24, was riding in a 1999 Chevrolet Camaro driven by Brandon Mark Rodriguez, 24, of Hawthorne, when Rodriguez lost control and the car skidded into the retaining wall of a house.

Police said that a preliminary investigation suggested that Rodriguez was under the influence of alcohol and driving over the 35 mph speed limit. He was taken to an area hospital and is currently under treatment, according to MBPD. Rubio was pronounced dead at the scene. ER
