Epipalooza to

end epilepsy

Mira Costa End Epilepsy hosts Epipalooza, a fundraising concert, this Saturday, June 1 at The Lighthouse Cafe, from 3 to 8 p.m., featuring five local bands, including End Epilepsy founder Slater Heidrich’s Good Vibe. Also performing will be XYZPDQ, Minor Problem, Pier Pressure, and Chroma Haze. Cooper Jones will also perform an acoustic set. Heidrich hopes to raise $10,000 for End Epilepsy research. The Lighthouse, at 30 Pier Ave., Hermosa Beach, is donating 15 percent of sales to the charity.

Public safety open house  

Manhattan Beach police and fire departments are hosting an open house Saturday, June 1, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at both department’s headquarters at 400 15th Street. The open house will showcase services and equipment, as well as the police officers and firefighters who provide public safety and emergency response to the community.

Guests will have the opportunity to meet members of the Manhattan Beach Police Department and Manhattan Beach Fire Department including the SWAT team, motor/traffic officers, parking and animal control officers, the K-9 team, firefighters/paramedics, and volunteers who support Neighborhood Watch, Victim Assistance Team, Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), Police Explorers and the Police Support Volunteers program.

Demonstrations throughout the day will feature the SWAT and K-9 teams and the Fire Department’s auto extrication using the jaws of life. Public safety vehicles on display will include fire trucks, the SWAT van, the Beach Patrol Rhino (all-terrain vehicle), the Beach Patrol truck, and traffic motorcycles. The Fire Bay will be open and guided tours of the city jail will occur throughout the day. The event will feature giveaways for kids and photo opportunities with the fire truck, police motorcycle or SUV and with police officers and firefighters.
