Interested in seeing babies racing in diapers or toddlers trotting to a finish line? Head to the 39th annual Hometown Fair this weekend in Manhattan Beach.
“We have activities throughout the fairgrounds for every age group,” said Maggie Movius, president of the fair’s board of directors. The fair raises operating funds for more than a hundred local charities and non-profit groups. The fair will take place in the general area of Live Oak, Dorsey Field and the Joslyn Center from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
The fair will start on Saturday with a parade featuring local dignitaries and the Mira Costa marching band.
A free shuttle will be available to drive people to the fair every 15 minutes from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Saturday and from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Sunday. Park your car at 1 Space Park Drive – the shuttle picks up at Aviation Boulevard and Marine Avenue in Redondo Beach.
On Saturday, the main stage on Dorsey Field will feature the local bands battling for a $500 cash prize.
The south stage next to the Joslyn Center will feature live bands all weekend, from soft country and blues to rock and roll.
In the Dorsey and Live Oak fields, fair-goers will find a variety of food — hot dogs, corn dogs, hamburgers, tacos, fish tacos, pizza, Polish sausages, teriyaki bowls, Philly Cheese Steak sandwiches, tri-tip, pulled pork, root beer floats, pepper-bellies, nachos, Kettle Korn and more.
The wine garden is open from noon to 6 p.m. both days in the basketball courts. The beer garden opens at 10 a.m. both days – tickets will be served for the beer garden until 4:30 p.m.
Free games include a water balloon toss, a three-legged race, a sack race, an egg toss, the diaper derby, toddler trot and more. Kids can visit the petting zoo, play ping pong and go on pony rides, while seniors can play bingo.
