My Fit Foods wants workers passionate about nutrition

My Fit Foods is holding a job fair on Saturday, January 28 and Sunday, January 30 for its soon to be open locations in Hermosa Beach and Torrance. The Texas-based company offers highly nutritional, prepared meals for take-home. The Hermosa Beach location is at 1025 Pacific Coast Highway, the former Rocky Cola location.

Positions for workers with a “passion for nutrition and fitness” include customer service, marketing, packaging meals (in cold temperatures), line cooks and drivers. The pay rate is $10/hour. Applicants must be 18 or older. The job fair will be held from 10 a.m. to noon and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on both days at the Best Western Avita Suites, 3531 Torrance Blvd., in Torrance.

Senator Lieu named a ‘politician to watch’

Governing Magazine’s January issue has named South Bay State Senator Ted Lieu one of a dozen state legislatures nationwide “to watch in 2012” for a second consecutive year. Lieu is the only Californian on the list.

“We wanted to feature politicians with a long future, particularly with the possibility of winning higher office at the state or federal level,” the editors said then.

Lieu, 42, last February won 57 percent of the vote among a field of eight candidates in a special election to fill the seat of Jenny Oropeza, who died October 20, 2010 of cancer.

Lieu represents the 28 State Senate District, which ranges from Redondo on the south to Santa Monica on the north and Torrance on the east.

SB Brokers to host economic conference

A conference on the state national, state and local economies will be presented by South Bay Brokers on Wednesday Feb. 8 at the Crowne Plaza King Harbor. The schedules speakers are Well Fargo senior economist Mark Vitner, California Association of Realtors CEO Joel Singer and RPM chief strategy officer Barry Habib. The conference, from 8 to 10 a.m. is $15. To register send an email by Jan. 31 to rsvp@southbaybrokers.com. The Crowne Plaza is located at 300 N. Harbor Dr., Redondo Beach.

Manhattan sidewalk sale

Over 80 retail stores in downtown Manhattan Beach will participate in a sidewalk sale Friday and Saturday, January 20 and 21.

Pirsztuk heads El Segundo Education Foundation

The El Segundo Education Foundation has appointed Carol Pirsztuk interim executive director, replacing Adam Aberman. The foundation has pledged $750,000 to ESUSD for this school year. These funds have enabled the district to continue offering 17 programs that were either scheduled to be scaled back or eliminated due to the State of California budget cuts. Pirsztuk’s focus in the next few months will be to continue to raise the funds for the foundation to honor that pledge. She is a graduate of El Segundo High School and Loyola Marymount with a BA in Economics and a BBA in Business Administration. Her most recent position was as a vice president with Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

Pirsztuk is the co-owner of two businesses in El Segundo — The Glass Idea Company and Kelly’s School of Irish Dance. ER
