After finishing second at the meet in 2009, Curtis ran a personal-best 4:46.63 to capture the title and secure her name among the great athletes in Redondo’s storied history.

Curtis’ teammate Lyndsey Mull finished third at 4:51.05 after the pair went 1-2 at the CIF Masters Meet the previous week and at the CIF Southern Section Finals May 22. Their performance in the state meet gave Redondo an 8th-place finish in girls team competition.

Curtis wasn’t the only local athlete to bring home a state crown. Jasmine Burrell, of North Torrance, won the state shot put title with a toss of 47 feet, 6.5 inches.

The University of Washington-bound Curtis has one more goal on her mind before wrapping up her prep career. She will be join Mull, Laura O’Neill and Rachel Bush when the Sea Hawks attempt to break the national record in the 4×1,600 relay at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals in Greensboro, N.C. to be held June 17-19.

The team was only about four seconds over record time when it set a new state record of 20:03.48 at the Mt. SAC Relays in April. ER
