
Bishop Montgomery distance standout Danielle Shanahan led a group of local girls in the CIF State Track & Field Championships, finishing her prep career with fourth-place finishes in the 1,600 and 3,200.
The Loyola Marymount-bound Shanahan was tops in a strong field of distance runners from the South Bay who made the trip to Buchanan High School in Clovis. Shanahan ran a personal best of 4:49.71 in the 1,600 and finished the 3,200 in 10:26.54.
South Torrance sophomore Kimberly Coscia finished 7th in the 3,200 with a time of 10:28.95.
Although it failed to reach the podium, Redondo had strong performances from its athletes. Making her third appearance in the state finals, Penn State-bound Cara Ulizio placed 7th in the 1,600 at 4:53.31.

Sophomore Amber Gore finished 8th in 800 with a mark of 2:12.21 which was a personal best for her.
Missing from the action was the Sea Hawks top runner Kayla Ferron, who was reduced to being a cheerleader after aggravating a stress fracture during the 1,600 at the CIF Southern Section Masters Meet the previous week.
Peninsula sophomore Tammy McVickar gained valuable experience while placing 10th in the high jump at 5-03.75.
