Suspect on the run eludes helicopters and canine units

redondo beach policeOn Sunday Nov. 27 around 8:45 p.m., Redondo Beach Police Department officers reported spotting a suspicious vehicle on Kingsdale Ave near the South Bay Galleria. The officers attempted to do a routine traffic stop, but the driver refused and sped up, attempted to evade them. The vehicle jumped a curb and drove the wrong way on the opposing street until reaching the 1800 block of Firmona Ave. and ditched the car in a driveway. Officers later discovered the car had been reported stolen. The two suspects in the vehicle ran from officers, and after 15 to 20 minutes one of the suspects was apprehended with a loaded firearm, leaving the other suspect still on the run. The suspect who was apprehended was identified as Jose Barraza Jr., 22. He was charged with evading and resisting arrest, possession of a stolen vehicle and possession of a firearm. Officers called in helicopters and canine units but after two hours of searching were unable to find the second suspect.
