The beaches of Manhattan, Hermosa and Redondo re-opened Wednesday morning on a limited basis, available to joggers, walkers and water enthusiasts. The piers and Strand are still closed, although the signs didn’t stop the skateboarders and walkers from enjoying the Strand Wednesday morning.
Los Angeles County has now opened all the beaches more than six weeks after they were closed to slow the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
Beaches countywide will be open from dawn to dusk, but will be limited to “active recreation,” according to the county. Group gatherings and stationary, solo activities will not be allowed.
According to a Department of Beaches and Harbors spokesperson Nicole Mooradian, face coverings are not required in the water, but are required on the beach if other people are nearby. If a surfer leaves the water and crosses the beach and there is no one else nearby, the surfer does not have to wear a mask.
Few people on the beach in Manhattan Beach Wednesday morning were wearing masks.
