Tuning up
Preparing for the big night two days hence, Abrakadabra performs its “Pre-New Year’s Eve” show at 8 p.m. in Suzy’s Bar & Grill, 1141 Aviation Blvd., Hermosa Beach. They’ll play originals and covers: Latin, pop, jazz with vocals, instrumentals, and so on. No cover. (310) 379-6171.

The closing reception for “Mimesis,” paintings and video imagery by Carla Viparelli, takes place on Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Manhattan Beach Art Center. Her closing reception
“Mimesis,” with paintings and video imagery by Carla Viparelli, is having its closing reception, with the artist in attendance (all the way from Italy!) from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Manhattan Beach Art Center, 1560 Manhattan Beach Blvd., MB. A chance to start over
Ring in the New Year from 8 to 11:45 p.m. at Pier Plaza in Hermosa Beach. Lou Giovanneti and His Big Band perform. The ball will be dropped at 9 p.m., in solidarity with our pals freezing their butts off at Times Square in NYC, and then at midnight when our calendars go from ‘18 to ‘19. More at hbchamber.net. ER
