Transpacific cable system pipes data, dollars into Hermosa Beach

The French-flagged cable layer Ile De Sein was working on the Transpacific Submarine Fiber Optic Cable System this week, half a mile off of Hermosa Beach. In addition to helping deliver digital signals from across the Pacific, the cables, which come ashore at the north and south ends of the city, each deliver about $300,000 annually to the city budget.
